Solidarity Session January 17th and February 21st, 2025

We would like to invite you to the next sessions of our Solidarity Sessions where we aim to create a supportive space for self-identifying racialized non-White academics by self-identifying racialized non-White academics.

January 17th, 2025 (15:30-17:00)

Location: University of Amsterdam, Roeterseiland Campus, REC C5.00

In this session, we would like to discuss how the Solidarity Sessions can serve as, and be maintained, as a counterspace for racialized non-white academics. Counterspace is a term used in critical race theory to describe spaces that resist dominant cultural or social norms. In this session, we will brainstorm together about ways to create more counter-spaces in academia and make this existing space sustainable beyond our project.

February 21st, 2025 (14:00-16:00)

Location: University of Amsterdam, Roeterseiland Campus, REC C5.00

In this session, we open we would like to open space for discussing allyship and exploring how we can build broader and sustainable coalitions to disrupt sameness in Dutch academia. By fostering alliances across communities, we aim to strengthen our collective leverage to push for more widespread and deeper change. We would like to explore questions about how and with whom we can seek allyship, and when allyship can play a collaborative, mutually beneficial, and ongoing role in advancing equity. Due to the topic, allies are welcome to attend.

Please email c.y.e.wong@uva.nl if you would like to come to any of the sessions.

Warm wishes,

Edwina and Olga
